Safety Committee Wins 2007 MCH Excellence in Healthcare Award

Monroe County Hospital’s Safety Committee was the recipient of the 2007 Excellence in Healthcare Award. The Safety Committee’s mission statement is “To create an environment that promotes employee and patient safety through education, process improvement, and risk management.” The committee has displayed a deep dedication to fulfilling its mission and serving MCH’s employees and patients. In 2007, MCH experienced no patient falls with harm and had an infection rate of only .4%. In addition, the Safety Committee focused on minimizing employee injuries by developing and implementing a Safe Patient Handling policy, purchasing patient handling equipment and aids, and holding education sessions for the entire employee population. Over the past 4 years, MCH’s workman’s compensation liability insurance premiums have decreased by almost $20,000. MCH is currently ranked 2nd in the State for lowest recorded workman’s comp premiums.
