Due to an internal promotion, Monroe County Hospital and Clinics is seeking a Controller for our Finance Department.

Job Schedule

Full-time: Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week. This position is exempt.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Assists with the annual detailed departmental operating budgets and capital budget, working closely with the department managers and CFO.  Develops and maintains a process to educate department managers on their budget, including monthly flexible budget revenue and expense reports, FTE, statistics and overtime reports
  • Distributes monthly responsibility reports and coordinates monthly review with department leaders.
  • Completes monthly financial general ledger closing process including posting journal entries and managing accounting records to ensure compliance and accuracy. Includes reviewing and adjusting bad debt allowance, contractual allowances and third-party settlement estimates. 
  • Develops and maintains a process to monitor cash on hand daily so that deviations can be addressed real-time. 
  • Develops and maintains a capital purchasing plan.
  • Evaluates hospital investments and develops strategies to maximize financial returns.
  • Works with HIM and business office manager to review hospital chargemaster and coordinates departmental charge reviews.  
  • Assists with preparation of all annual financial audit schedules and coordinates annual audit fieldwork and preparation of financial statements with hospital audit firm.
  • Maintains hospital property and equipment records and depreciation schedules.  Records acquisitions and disposals of equipment and conducts periodic fixed asset inventories.
  • Performs bank account reconciliations with general ledger monthly.
  • Manages and prepares finances for Monroe County Hospital Foundation.
  • Reviews and assures accuracy of all payroll tax filings.
  • Attends LDI and department leader meetings regularly and other meetings as requested.
  • Satisfactory completion of on-the-job orientation and competency skills checklist.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ongoing compliance with MCHC educational and training requirements.
  • Adheres to the MCHC mission, vision, values, and Standards of Behavior.
  • Maintains patient and hospital confidentiality.
  • Promotes and maintains positive relationships with patients, visitors, coworkers, and providers.
  • Actively participates in department huddles, in-services, meetings, and educational opportunities.
  • Follows all departmental policies and procedures and adheres to departmental budget.

 

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in financial or business curriculum.
  • Mandatory reporting certified or within 90 days of hire.
  • Overall attention to detail, organizational ability, and ability to prioritize.
  • The ability to work in teams and communicate accurately and clearly.
  • Computer experience using Microsoft Office Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Proficient in English in order to communicate with patients, families, and other caregivers.

 

Preferred education and experience
  • Knowledge of using budgeting tools and financial analysis.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a health care (preferably hospital) work setting.
