MCHC Announces New CNO

myphotoMonroe County Hospital & Clinics is excited to announce the hiring of Gale Herrera, BSN, as its new CNO (Chief Nursing Officer).

Prior to coming to MCHC, Gale was the Network Nurse Executive at Mercy Medical Center Des Moines for many years where she developed meaningful affinity meetings for many disciplines, allowing for idea sharing and team problem solving. She played an integral role in developing educational and clinical resources for the systems fourteen Critical Access Hospitals. Gale also worked at Story County Medical Center for 7 years as their Chief Nursing Officer and most recently she worked in Webster City at Van Diest Medical Center as their Chief Nursing Officer. Herrera has previous experience working with current MCHC CEO, Todd Willert, at Story Medical where she was instrumental in bringing additional clinical services to Story Medical; developing programs such as health coaches and transition coaches; and implementing a number of patient safety initiatives.

“We are very fortunate to have someone like Gale joining us at Monroe County Hospital” said Willert.  “Gale has a tremendous reputation throughout the State as being an outstanding nurse leader and patient advocate”.

Gale grew up in the Tennessee area and graduated with her BSN from the University of Memphis in Tennessee.  She currently lives in Altoona with her Pomeranian pup, Scrappy. She and her late husband had 10 children between them and have 27 grandchildren.  Gale enjoys quilting, cooking, watching TV, and reading magazines.
