The big news from the February 23, 2011 Board Meeting was that Midwest Health representatives gave an overview of their proposed assisted living project. Midwest is a company based out of Topeka, Kansas that builds and runs assisted living facilities across the midwest. Their closest facility is in Chariton. “While we don’t want to raise hopes again and have them dashed, and while nothing is absolute at this point, it appears that assisted living will move forward this spring,” said MCHC CEO, Greg Paris. The assisted living building will include 30-35 units and will be located on the northeast corner of Hospital grounds.
Next steps include:
- Midwest will begin testing soil and arranging survey of land.
- On March 14th, the Board will hold a public hearing on the sale of land. Immediately following the public hearing it is anticipated that the Board will approve a resolution to enter into a contract for the sale of about 10 acres of land to Midwest.
- As soon as possible after March 14th, we will finalize contract for sale of land.
- Once this is done, Midwest can begin building, potentially beginning in the next 90 days with completion late fall.
Paris added, “This is exciting news and good for our facility as well as residents of Monroe County.” Stay tuned for more information about the assisted living project.
