The National Rural Health Association has named Monroe County Hospital & Clinics a Top 20 Critical Access Hospital in the nation in Patient Satisfaction for 2020

ALBIA, APRIL 27, 2020–Monroe County Hospital & Clinics (MCHC) in Albia, Iowa, was recently identified as one of the Top 20 Critical Access Hospitals nationwide for 2020 in Best Practices in Patient Satisfaction by the National Rural Health Association (NRHA).

The Top 20 Critical Access Hospitals, including MCHC, were determined by The Chartis Center for Rural Health after reviewing data by iVantage Health Analytics in its Hospital Index. An awards ceremony will be held in September during the NRHA’s 2020 Critical Access Hospital Conference in Kansas City, Mo.

“Monroe County Hospital & Clinics is proud of the efforts of its physicians and staff who have contributed to our hospital achieving this recognition,” said Veronica Fuhs, Chief Executive Officer at Monroe County Hospital & Clinics. “This award reflects our team’s strong dedication to providing quality patient care.”

Each of the Top 20 Critical Access Hospital Award winners has achieved success in overall performance based on a composite rating from eight indices of strength: inpatient market share, outpatient market share, quality, outcomes, patient perspective, cost, charge and financial efficiency. This group was selected from The Chartis Center for Rural Health’s 2020 Top 100 CAH list, released earlier this year.

Hospitals under consideration were recognized for abiding by industry best practices and achieving success in at least one of two key areas of performance:

  • Quality index: A rating of hospital performance based on the percentile rank across the indicators of Hospital Compare Process of Care measures that are specific to rural hospitals.
  • Patient perspective index: A rating of hospital performance aggregated and ranked across 10 domains of the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS).
“We can’t thank our patients enough for their support,” said Fuhs. “This designation shows that our community counts on us for the healthcare services they need now and in the future.”
